Allegheny, Capital, and Mid-Atlantic Chapters of the American Musicological Society
Fall 2018 Meeting
Friday, October 5, 2018– Saturday, October 6, 2018
University of Delaware, Newark, DE

The Allegheny, Capital and Mid-Atlantic chapters of the American Musicological Society are pleased to announce a joint meeting on Friday and Saturday, October 5– 6, 2018 at the University of Delaware.

The Program Committee invites proposals for papers, lecture-recitals, and poster presentations. Submissions from faculty, independent scholars, and graduate or undergraduate students of any discipline are welcome. Proposals may be on any subject of musicological interest. Presentations should be limited to 20 minutes to allow 10 minutes for discussion. An abstract of up to 300 words, along with the proposed title, and a list of equipment necessary for the presentation should be submitted before midnight on Monday, August 13, 2018.

In addition to individual proposals, the Program Committee invites abstracts for themed panels or roundtable discussions on any subject of musicological interest. Panels shall last no longer than one hour and fifteen minutes.  An abstract of up to 500 words, along with the proposed title, a list of participants and their roles in the session, and a list of the equipment necessary for the presentation should be submitted before midnight on Monday, August 13, 2018.

The Program Committee is also pleased to announce that it is convening a special panel on professional development, with particular focus on the needs and concerns of contingent faculty.

Please refer to the AMS abstract guidelines: “Proposals should represent the presentation as fully as possible. A successful proposal typically articulates the main aspects of the argument or research findings clearly, positions the author’s contribution with respect to previous scholarship, and suggests the paper’s significance for the musicological community, in language that is accessible to scholars with a variety of specializations.” Applicants may submit only one proposal per meeting; figures and examples should not be included with your submission.

Please submit all proposals via email to Alanna Ropchock Tierno at aropchoc@su.edu. Abstracts will be evaluated by a blind peer-review process. The decisions of the Program Committee will be announced by August 31, 2018.

Presenters must be members of the American Musicological Society. Each chapter will collect dues separately at the meeting.
